| Customer Reviews: Hana Highway Mile by Mile a winner! July 25, 2007 Glade Warner (Sandy, UT USA) 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Maui's Hana Highway is one of the best drives in the United States. It deserves a great tour book, and Derrick's Hana Highway Mile By Mile is the one to take along.
The book delivers just what it promises: A comprehensive guide of the sights along the route, mile by mile. The book's organization makes it simple to find out about the next point of interest ahead as you are driving. The book lists ratings for each of the stops. I found that for the most part I agree with the book's ratings of the attractions.
The information in the book can be found elsewhere. For example the great book, Maui Revealed, covers much of the same information. The book Hana Highway Mile By Mile shines is in its organization and clarity. For example when you see mile marker 32 you can quickly find that 5 star rated Wai'anapanapa State Wayside Park is just ahead. The guide tells you where within this Wayside Park to find the black sand beach, the lava tubes, the sea arches, and the blow hole. Everything you need is at your fingertips.
The book is small--only 66 pages. All pictures are in color. The maps are nice, but I think Maui Revealed's maps are better.
The only complaint I have is minor and shared by the other Maui guide books: They use the Hawaiian words makai (ocean side of road) and mauka (mountain side of road) throughout. Every time I read these terms I have to look up what they mean.
This book helped to make my July 2007 journey down the Hana Highway both memorable and enjoyable!

This book is a waste of money and time. If all I had to go on were the pictures in this book I'd stay at home. If only there was way to give a negative star rating. Buy a guide worth reading. Maui Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook (Maui Revealed)
