This book is very helpful. The book is very easy to use. Includes all addresses and phone numbers so you can call ahead. Also has great suggestons for daily activities, restaurants, hotels, and beaches. Worth every penny!

Very useful and only book to read n take to the trip includes all aspects of the trip u can think of. Great pictures and resourceful color map.

What fun to review the island and details that give us reason to visit places we had not considered.
Wonderful adventuring in different places and peaceful retreats. We had so much fun that we ventured off on our own and enjoyed many places we would not have gone to were it not for the enticement of the books overview of the area.
Recommend this as an added source of information on Kaua'i before you go. Aloha!

After being in Kauai for a week and having used this book to plan everything for our trip we found it to be poor at best. My biggest gripe about the book is that it is full of spin, or in other words it only mentions all the good stuff without informing you of any of the down sides. For example I did not see any mention in the book about chickens, however the first thing you will notice once you leave the airport is there are thousands of chickens everywhere, and the roosters begin crowing at 3:00 in the morning. In fact many of the stores sell earplugs for obvious reasons yet there was no mention of this in the book. Next was the downplay of the weather, from talking to the locals it rains everyday in Kauai, yet no mention in the book about bringing rain gear or packing an umbrella. The directions for many of the activities in the book are vague at best, we had to buy a map once we got here to try and find some of the places in the book. For example the Na Aina Kai botanical garden which is mentioned in the book is not even shown on their map, while the Gauva Kai Plantation is on their map yet is not mentioned in the book. The book states that you need to be in decent shape to hit the Kalalau trail, yet our helicopter pilot told us that it is a 10 out of 10 difficulty hike and that they regularly have to rescue hikers. It is also only hinted at that this is not a one day hike. Again this seems like heavy spin in our eyes and worse still spin that could get people in trouble. Another example was the tubing down the ditch, although it is an awesome trip and well worth doing, there was no mention of how extremely "refreshing" the water temperature is. Again it would have been nice to be prepared for that. After reading the book we decided to go with "Fodor's Choice" of the Hyatt hotel and were disappointed. The hotel is extremely overpriced and was in a state of disrepair. Outdoor showers were broken, hammocks were falling apart, the ponds near the ocean were covered in some sort of slime and the only meal worth mentioning was at Tidepools, the rest were only average at best and way overpriced. As far as the rooms we have a nicer bed, towels and toilet paper at home, these were certainly not what we expected from a $300+ a night hotel. Overall we were extremely dissatisfied with the Hyatt and I would never recommend it to anyone. After having said all this we do want to point out that Kauai is an amazing and beautiful island and we did having a fantastic trip. However we think our trip could have been that much better if we could have been better prepared with honest reviews instead of the spin that this book provides.
